Seven Major Original Equipment Manufacturers Agree to Increase Production of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles

On September 8th 2009 major key players from each of the following companies: (1) Daimler AG; (2) Ford Motor Company; (3) General Motors Corporation; (4) Honda Motor Co.; (5) Hyundai Motor Company/KIA; (6) The Alliance Renault S A/ Nissan Motor Co.; (7) Toyota Motor Corporation gathered to sign a letter of understanding on the development and market introduction of fuel cell vehicles.  Although each OEM will implement its own specific production and commercial strategies, in signing this agreement commit to producing approximately a few hundred thousand units on a worldwide basis no later than 2015, possibly sooner.  They all agree that increased production must be met with infrastructure therefore it is critical that hydrogen fuelling stations are built to ensure success and ultimately reduce the impact to the environment from the emissions of the transportation sector.  By clicking this link, you may view the original Letter of Understanding on the Development and Market Introduction of Fuel Cell Vehicles.

In addition to viewing the letter, Gunnar Þór Jónsson (gunnar@iceh2.com) from Icelandic Hydrogen has produced a general scheme that allows the viewer to see hydrogen products and vehicles that manufactures are releasing.  In other words, it demonstrates that those who signed the Letter of Understanding are backing up their words with actions.
