HyNor is demonstration in Norway intended to provide a joint industry initiative by implementing a real life hydrogen energy infrastructure along a route of 580 kilometers from Oslo to Stavanger during the years 2005 to 2008. It is also intended to extend into Sweden and Denmark later on. The project is intended to cover varying transport means such as buses, taxis and private cars, while simultaneously form a common network between major industrial, transport, and R&D institutes.
The suitability of Norway’s rich resources in hydro power, natural gas, and biomass provide an optimal platform to engage in projects such as HyNor. As such, along the seven nodes of HyNor, hydrogen will be produced from solar, electrolysis hydropower, from biomass waste, chlorine production, hydrogen and carbon fiber, natural gas reforming and from refinery. Of these four, Stavanger (natural gas reforming) opened in August 2006 and Bergen (refinery or carbon black) opened in June 2007. Oslo (electrolysis hydropower) and Drammen (biomass waste) will open in May this year.
