Use H2 Backup 2004 - 06

The goal of this joint technological initative, between Iceland and the US, is to evaluate fuel cells as back-up power for various applications.  It is a one year project funded by the United States Army Corps of Engineers and the Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL).  It is designed to provide better understanding of hydrogen fuel cells and to enable the project owners to exchange experiences. Learning objectives include issues related to installation, service, maintenance, the use and logistics of hydrogen, as well as reliability.

Over the one year demonstration period the goal is to start and stop the fuel cell over 400 times, evaluating the potential for using it as an alternative back-up power to batteries and diesel generators.
