The service of the station is confined for the time being to provide the whale watching boat Elding with hydrogen to run the electric system on board. The whole electrical grid is driven by a hydrogen fuel cell as an alternative to the conventional diesel auxilliary power unit. The station uses hydrogen produced in the Hydrogen station at Grjótháls Reykjavik. The hydrogen is trucked in by ISAGA registered gas transportation vehicles, using industrial gas bottles which then are connected directly to an automatic cascade refuelling device, delivering hydrogen to the boat at 180bar max. On the picture the station is behind the people furthest to the left. The picture is taken at the inauguartion day April 2008.
The position of the station is down by the dock in the old Reykjavik Harbour. The address is: Ægisgardur. When walking towards the sea it is on the left side little further than the office booth of Elding whale watching company. Icelandic Hydrogen (www.iceh2.com ) built the station and installed the fuel cell system on board the Elding safari boat.
The hydrogen is transferred from the station to the boat via pipeline and a approved nozzle. Germanisher Lloyd and Siglingastofnun saw to the classification of the equipment on board the ship.
